The schooner Trinovante with lowers set, sailing in Plymouth Sound

Our Main Traditional Sailing Holidays Website Is Now At

People have been enjoying traditional sailing holidays onboard Trinovante since 2005.  The website is now the online home of Trinovante, a traditionally rigged three-masted gaff Schooner.  You can go straight to view our current  Sailing Holiday Itinerary on the  SchoonerSail Web Site or read a little more about our sailing holidays here.

Each year Trinovante sails several thousand miles to explore and discover new places around the UK coast, Norway, The Arctic Circle, Netherlands and Western Europe. In the summer of 2019  TRinovante will be sailing from the UK to Norway’s fjords and Islands crossing the Arctic Circle. The return voyages follow the Viking sea routes to the Shetland Isles, Fairisle and Orkney before returning to our home waters on the Thames Estuary.

In other years we have sailed to the Baltic, competed in the Tall Ships Races and sailied aound Britian and Ireland.
Trinovante never sails the same route two years running

Who Goes On Our  Traditional Sailing Holidays?

Anyone. Whether you are already an experienced sailor and well used to traditional rig,  a yachtsman, or a complete beginner you will find a place onboard. You might be coming on your own, as most people do or as part of a couple or with a friend and family. You might be searching for the adventure of a lifetime, want a break from the hustle and bustle or like to meet new people, you can find it all and more on one of our voyages.

Trinovante is big enough to provide comfortable sea crossings yet small enough to go where larger ships can only dream and is the perfect choice for exploring under sail.

A few things you should know about our Traditional Sailing Holidays:

  • Now in our 12th year of chartering.
  • No experience necessary, both beginners and experienced sailors welcome.
  • Fully inclusive prices; no add-ons, extra’s or hidden costs
  • Wide variety of voyage types – from coastal day sails to challenging offshore voyages.
  • Big enough to give you the experience of a small ship, small enough to go where the bigger boats can only dream of.
  • Single sailors welcome.
  • Not agency run; better prices, easy contact and plenty of tea.  You book with us, you sail with us. Simple.
  • Permanent Skipper and Mate; It’s John or Su that you speak to and sail with.

SchoonerSail is about adventure, exploration and living with a relaxed and friendly ethos on-board. Our sailors keep coming back again and again for this reason.

Hi, we are Su and John.

We sail onboard as permanent skipper and mate. Over the last 12 years we have sailed tens of thousands of miles on Trinovante.

SchoonerSail is not an agency booking for many boats. If you book with us you sail with us. If you phone SchoonerSail, it will be either John or Su who picks up the phone. Needless to say you can only book to sail on Trinovante on the SchoonerSail website

We like to feel the wind in our hair, watch beautiful sunsets, gaze at starry skies, sort out the world with our sailing guests, eat good food, visit remote places and cities, laugh, drink plenty of tea and go sailing.

Our interests obviously include traditional sail but gaff rig was chosen for Trinovante purely for practical reasons.   Gaff Rig workd beautifully for  in the here and now and we are confident you will find Trinovante a delight to sail.

John trained in engineering, has worked in steel fabrication, as a yacht delivery skipper and in the offshore industry. For a number of years he sailed extensively in an engineless 50ft ketch.

He has been the skipper since 2002 and is also the designer and builder of Trinovante.

Su was involved in setting up the Bromley by Bow Centre in the East End of London, taught for ILEA and worked as a carpenter. She has been sailing for many years.

Since 2002 she has been sailing onboard Trinovante as mate and is a co builder of Trinovante.
